What is a affiliate program, are they different from referral programs? I am new to the web, so not sure. I was able to review the site mentioned above, It seems reasonable good site, since they don’t ask you any money to open an account, I don’t see a problem opening an account.

As far as affiliate program and referral program, they are all same.

Remember, save yourself trouble from scams by never paying any money to join. Some sites like commission junction (CJ) cheats its members & don’t pay full, search…

The biggest ones in the US are Amazon, Clickbank and Ebay. Amazon and Clickbank are pretty easy to join and I have not heard of people having problems with them. EBay is harder to join and gets some complaints. They all are free to join.

You need to read up on some forums like Warrior Forum to get information on how to market affiliate products.

For setting up your website, I would recommend http://www.acesitecreator.com since it is cheap, incorporates the major affiliate programs and easy to set up.

The real challenge is of course getting people to your sites once you get them set up. For that, you need to do search engine optimization and pay per click and anything else that works!

I just had a look at what Affiliate Summit offers and it would entirely depend on what it is that you want to do and what conference/exhibit you are planning to attend or display in and it’s relevence to what you do.

Consider Cost vs Benefit as your criteria not whether or not you are a newbie.

Does it “fit” within your business plan?

Can I summit affiliate website with affiliate ID at any web directories?
Can I SEO recognize that link?

What I meant that, affiliate website and the link is together with my affiliate ID. For example, www.jewelry.com/affid-2988123. How can I get top ranking with this lengthy link. Some submissions only allow main domain, while I do not have one. I only wish to promote this link with my affiliate ID, so that it will be on top ranking of Yahoo, Google and MSN.

Hope you understand my question.

Google and Yahoo frown on duplicate content a lot, especially affiliate links. You will need to pay for advertising or create your own website to offer affiliate products off of. There is no easy overnight solution. I’m sorry.

If you’re set on doing this then there is a crude way – create a framed website, for this you will need to buy a domain – there is no way around this, e.g.

www.yourdomain.com includes the page
www.jewelry.com/affid-2988123 as a frame

See this basic example, they have 2 framed pages running vertically http://www.htmlgoodies.com/legacy/tutorials/frames/frame2.htm

You would need to do the same but run the frames horizontally, with the top frame about 150-250px hight.

Page A would be the header frame calls Page B which is the www.jewelry.com/affid-2988123 frame. In this way you would submit www.yourdomain.com to directories but it actually calls www.jewelry.com/affid-2988123

If you include highly targeted obsure keywords in the content on Page A, perhaps mispellls where the competition is much lower, or even a keyword stuffed domain for Page A you may get some page 1 page 2 rankings.

All of the above can be done in less than 30 minutes.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based
website, make sure to fill-in the property entries
such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing
to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can
be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the
Internet audience and their incoming setup. For
example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages
take too long to load up and therefore analog users
will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the
Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL
lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So
before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple
question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or
DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users
for maximum marketability, then select analog users
since 80% of most resident users are still analog
Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages
is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,
is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit
the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a
graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots
are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
directory.

Do you know if affiliate websites are the real deal? Or are they just a scam?
I heard that there are a few affiliate websites on ebay for sale. The sellers say that they make at least $ 500 dollars a month from these sites. I was interested in buying one. Do you think this is legit and legal or just a scam to get people to buy nothing for over $ 100?

Some work, but most don’t. I have heard that only 3% of people that do affiliate programs will ever make any real money. Here is a really great program that you might want to look into.

You can set up a website for free on Googlepages and join Amazon Associates for free and set up a store there.

My advice is to not join any affiliate program that charges money. There are plenty like comission junction, that are free. All you do is copy the banners and place them on the sites that you make.
